MFOL Power Up June 24-26 and 30, 2020

Let Your Voice Be Heard

Networking, Rally

WHEN: June 24-26 and June 30, 2020

WHERE: Virtual and local events.

The past several weeks, we have seen young people take to the streets to fight against systemic racism and injustice. We have seen voters stand in mile-long lines in the middle of a pandemic. We have seen artists creating powerful murals across the country that can change hearts and minds. Now, it’s time to channel this energy into Our Power — our power to vote, our power of identity, and our power to change the world.

Welcome to Our Power: Powering Up Through Activism! All week, we're hosting virtual advocacy and action events on issues that directly impact young people, from protesting to voting to LGBTQ+ issues. This week is centering Black women leaders, with our three keynote events featuring amazing Black women! Here are more details about each of these amazing events below — RSVP for a free event (or 2 or 3!) ✌

The Power of Our PRIDE, featuring Black Lives Matter Co-Founder, Patrisse Cullors // JUNE 24TH, 7:00PM EST

Keynote speaker Patrisse Cullors, co-founder of Black Lives Matter, will join LGBTQ+ March For Our Lives organizers and allies to reflect on the ways in which LGBTQ+ activists have historically pushed our nation toward its ideals in a celebration of identity. 🌈

The Power of Our CIVIC ENGAGEMENT, featuring Fair Fight Action Founder, Stacey Abrams // JUNE 25TH, 7:00PM EST

While we know that voting won't solve all of the issues at hand, we can't give an inch of our power away by failing to make our voices heard in elections both big and small. Stacey Abrams, founder of Fair Fight Action and former Georgia gubernatorial candidate, will chat with us on how to work within the political system to create enduring change in 2020 and beyond.

REM!X: The Power of Our ART // JUNE 26TH, 7:00PM EST

Speaker Carri Twigg and other guests will participate in March For Our Lives' REM!X series, which shifts the definition of advocacy to join artistic expression with political organizing. REM!X was created by and uplifts Black women activists of March For Our Lives. Join us for an evening of an evening of healing through the arts.

PowerUp+: Every Voice is Heard // JUNE 30, 4:00PM EST

What does it mean to build an inclusive movement? How do you be an ally? What can you do to make sure that you're centering the voices of impacted communities and building a safe space for people of all backgrounds? How can we uplift leaders of color in our activism? You'll walk away with a better understanding of privilege and how it can affect movements. This session will be led by Break Away, a national nonprofit organization that promotes the development of quality alternative break programs through training and connecting campuses and communities.

PHONEBANKS, PHONEBANKS, PHONEBANKS! // ALL WEEK

Throughout the week, we’re also hosting phone banks pushing for demilitarizing the police, holding police departments accountable, and reallocating huge police budgets towards community-centered solutions.
