"She usually won": Remembering Jane McAlevey

WHEN: February 18, 2025 | 6:00 PM

WHERE: Proshansky Auditorium at the CUNY Graduate Center 365 5th Ave, New York, NY 10016

REGISTRATION: www.thenation.com/events/jane-mcalevey

Jane McAlevey died last July following a battle with multiple myeloma. Senior Policy Fellow at the University of California at Berkeley, Strikes Correspondent for The Nation, long-time political actor, commentator, and educator, campaign strategist, and union organizer—Jane left us a rich lifetime of work to study, emulate, and carry on.

Join us on February 18 in New York City to celebrate Jane's life and legacy with her friends, family, and comrades.

Jane dedicated her life to increasing working-class power. She believed that worker-driven unions—led from the bottom up rather from the top down—were the most effective engines to combat economic inequality. She taught thousands of organizers how to make that happen and she demonstrated the example in successful campaigns, largely, with the Service Employees International Union. Jane's internationalist bent was also apparent in her work with immigrant rights organizations, global climate activists, German hospital unions, Irish communications workers and labor organizers in Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom.

Hosted by Liza Featherstone, this event will offer a personal and political window on the values Jane held dear and how to continue to carry them on in her tradition. Please join us on February 18 and help spread the word.

The event is free but registration is required.
